New uranium mine could open in northeastern Romania

Romania could open a new uranium mine in Suceava County (northeast), said Maricel Popa, Secretary of State with the Ministry of Economy, cited in a release of the institution sent to Agerpres. Attending in Suceava an event organized by the National Uranium Corporation, Popa said that in the current international context, Romania definitely needs to develop this sector. "So I tell you chances are high that we find financing to open the Tulghes-Grinties deposit. The mine at Crucea will not shut down, but another perimeter will be developed, incorporating the human resources and professionalism of the Suceava Branch personnel," said the Secretary of State. The National Uranium Corporation, included in the portfolio of the Ministry of Economy - Energy Department, was established in 1997 and manages Romania's uranium mineral resources. Uranium is used in Romania as fuel for the two nuclear reactors at Cernavoda (country south-east) that are currently in operation. Romani
