Cand tanarul prim ministru Victor Ponta spunea la un moment dat “ Guvernatorul BNR are intotdeauna dreptate”,  o facea in mod peiorativ. Mugur Isarescu este mult mai abil si mult mai mobilat cu masti  perverse pentru a nu fi reactionat direct si fara menajamente. Dimpotriva, pana la alegerile noului  Consiliu de Administratie al Bancii centrale parea un mare sustinator al guvernarii Uniunii Social Liberale. O uniune de partide fara precedent in istoria moderna a tarii. Nici in perioada interbelica si, cu atat mai putin in anii de democratie de dupa 1989, Romania nu reusise o coalitie politica din care doua mari curente sa fie brat la brat pentru interesul Romaniei. In naivitatea sa juvenila, in toiul framantarilor pentru prezidentialele din 2014 Victor Ponta spunea despre Isarescu: "Sunt convins ca Isarescu vrea un nou mandat la Banca Nationala.   Eu cred ca stabilitatea noastra in ceea ce priveste Banca Nationala e un bun castigat.
